CULTURESERVE.NET is an online global art journal that seamlessly combines academic discourse, street vernacular and philosophical perspective with a focus on urban contemporary art and a passion for social justice. As a result, art + culture become a platform to explore the human condition in the 21st century while simultaneously re-defining the “value” of art in contemporary culture. With a focus on street art, women artists and creators of flavor around the world, the site serves a global network of artists, activists, arts professionals, and the general public. Cultureserve’s content is written and curated with the aim of exploring intersections and pathways across race, gender, religion, class, age, nation, and the cultural landscape. Cultureserve.net is a project by Diana McClure and was most recently, a Finalist for a 2008 Creative Capital l Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant.
About Diana:
Ms. McClure is a contemporary artist who has worked across the art + culture landscape for 15 years in both New York and Los Angeles in photography, experimental writing and new media. In 2009 she was a member of the 2009 Curatorial Committee for photoMiami, the international contemporary art fair for photo-based art, video & new media, and wrote the Living Arts column for the NewYorkTimes.com/LOCAL as part of a New York Times experimental project on hyperlocal and collaborative journalism. Diana has also written for Art Asia Pacific and The Studio Museum in Harlem magazine among others. She has received grants/fellowships from The New School for Social Research and The Mellon Foundation. Her photographic work has appeared in The Philadelphia African American Museum, The Los Angeles Times, Judy Chicago’s Envisioning the Future project and NYMAG.com. In 2007, she founded Cultureserve.net, a global art + culture news website that was a 2008 Finalist for a Creative Capital l Warhol Foundation – Arts Writers Grant. Cultureserve positions women artists, street art and artists working in an international context in a larger dialogue that challenges assumptions about global art. Diana holds a BA from Columbia University and an MA from The New School. She has been a panelist for the Brooklyn Arts Council and, a curatorial advisor for Danny Simmons’ Corridor Gallery Full Spectrum programming, the Department of Cultural Affairs (NYC) Percent for Art program, and the Here Arts Center Portrait Project. She currently consults on Professional Development and Programming for Queens Council on the Arts and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Nice to find out about Cultureserve at the Dissident Display opening for Wild Style. The site totally reflects the concept of the event! It’s awesome.

Hey, it looks even better than the last time I logged on. All of this new content is tight and the artists are quite talented. This is a great (and necessary) idea! Keep up the great work!
